Late Breaking Clinical Trials Posted Online

Decisions have been finalized and the late-breaking clinical trials (LBCT) and emerging technology sessions for both ACC.09 and i2.09 are listed in the Program Planner. Click here for the Program Planner and check under ACC.Special Topics and i2.Plenary to read the details for the various sessions. The first i2 Summit LBCT takes place 8:30 to 10 a.m., Saturday, March 28. For ACC.09, the first LBCT is 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sunday, March 29.

Reinhardt to Present Dack Lecture at ACC.09

Uwe Reinhardt, Ph.D., whose provocative

Reinhardt

comments on health care reform opened ACC’s 2008 Health System Reform Summit, will present the Simon L. Dack Lecture during the ACC.09 opening Scientific Showcase on Sunday, March 29, in Orlando. Reinhardt, who is James Madison Professor of Political Economy at Princeton University, is one of the nation’s leading experts on health care economics. In his Summit comments he looked at the challenges facing the health care system and called on all stakeholders to meet the challenges and make the changes needed to overcome them.

Reinhardt spoke of the current dissonance between a delivery system that emphasizes compassionate, generous care for all and a payment system that establishes relative value of patients according to income levels. He stressed the “moral imperative for shaping up” and the need for not only “evidence-based, cost-effective health care, but evidence-based, cost-effective administration.” Attendees to the Scientific Showcase Session can expect to hear additional thought-provoking commentary from Reinhardt at ACC.09.

ACC.09/i2.09 Education
Never Ends with iScience 2009

March 31, 2009, may be the last day of ACC.09

and i2.09 in Orlando, but your educational experience from the meetings can continue with iScience 2009, an ACC.09 and i2.09 Meeting on Demand. iScience 2009 will be a comprehensive digital library of more than 200 hours of education sessions presented at ACC.09 and i2 Summit. The library, which will have Late-Breaking Clinical Trials and other valuable sessions from the meeting, comes in a bundled package that includes online access and a DVD. Sessions will be searchable by learning pathway, session title, presentation title or author, and each presentation includes the presenters’ slides synchronized with accompanying audio. It is literally impossible to attend everything in person at ACC.09 and i2 Summit; however, you’ll be able to extend your education experience with iScience 2009.

Purchase iScience 2009 when you register for ACC.09 and/or i2.09 and receive 20% off the onsite price. Onsite in Orlando, you may purchase iScience 2009 at the iScience Sales Desk in Registration B, Lobby C or ACC Central, Booth # 2062, on the Expo floor. Click here for more details.

i2 Offers Stimulating Simulation Options

Interventional cardiologists will find multiple

opportunities for simulation training this year at the i2 Summit. For those who sign up to take the ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) course, the Medical Simulation Corporation in cooperation with ABIM will be offering simulation training. Participants will be able to earn MOC procedural credits by completing a medical simulation, which provides a hands-on opportunity to perform cases that mirror what a physician would typically face in daily practice. These sessions will take place in Rooms 331 and 332 of the Convention Center. Simulation training will be available from Saturday through Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day except Tuesday when the training will end at 3 p.m. Click here for more details and to register for the MOC course.

Hands-on simulation will also be available in Simulation Stations located in the rear of the i2 Interventional Pavilion on the Expo floor. The training options will include coronary, carotid, renal and SFA/iliac intervention procedures. Sign-up and reserve a time slot onsite at the information desk near the Simulation Stations. The stations will be open the same hours as the Expo, including Saturday, March 28, 4 to 6 p.m., during the Interventional Pavilion Reception.

Take Advantage of Additional Interactive Learning

ACC.09 and i2 Summit offer many interactive

learning opportunities such as the already-mentioned Simulation Stations in the Interventional Pavilion. Once again, the always popular Heart Songs Learning Lab returns this year and will be located in Hall D, adjacent to the Expo floor. Improve your cardiac auscultation skills by listening to heart sounds on an iPod while viewing supplementary material on poster boards. Basic and advanced levels are offered, including three new murmurs to challenge advanced learners. Finally, visit the Poster Session Area during the dedicated viewing hours, meet faculty and check out the poster boards. Best poster awards will be given to candidates from each clinical topic track during the wrap-up session.

This is the third of four preview e-newsletters of Scientific Session News, with news and information about ACC.09 and i2 Summit 2009.
